This brochure contains 24 size A5 pages. It is in a comic strip form with text commentaries under the drawings and quotations from fire regulations relating to presented situations. It is directed to adults and senior secondary school students. The brochure illustrates and describes causes of home type fire accidents. The knowledge of these allows fire prevention and safe living at home. The expressions used to depict fire causes are consistent with those used by fire brigade. < br />

This brochure describes the following fire causes:

a/ carelessness of adults during open fire use, including cigarette smoking and matches:
- smoking cigarettes in bed
- throwing out burning cigarette butts in places where highly flammable materials are present
- leaving cooking unattended on a burning stove
- lighting camp fires and burning rubbish near buildings

b/ carelessness of adults while using highly flammable substances:
- dry cleaning clothes and removing stains using flammable liquids
- cleaning floors using flammable liquids
- painting using flammable solvent based paints and lacquers
- lighting oven fires using flammable liquids
- carelessness while transferring flammable liquids

c/ incorrect stockpiling of dangerous substances:
- storing flammable materials close to heat sources and chemical substances interactions which lead to a fire

d/ incorrect use of vehicles:
- garaging the combustion engine equipped vehicles with fuel in tanks in enclosed spaces not adapted for this purpose

e/ defects to and incorrect use of electrical heating equipment (stoves/ heaters/ kettles etc):
- storing flammable materials close to electrical heating equipment

f/ defects to and incorrect use of electrical installations and equipment (electrical wiring/ lighting/ accessories/ non heating equipment):
- overloading electrical wiring, repairing safety fuses, lack of periodical electrical circuitry checks, damage to wirings and electrical equipment

g/ defects and incorrect use of heating stoves on solid, liquid and gas fuel:
- neglecting to remove soot from chimney ducts, poor stove performance, defects to gas installations
