Fire emergency evacuation (film)

Film duration is 13 minutes. It was recorded on VHS cassette and on CD. Also a version for hearing and speech impaired persons with a sing language translation is available. The film is a helpful additional material to be used by school headmasters as it shows the examples of evacuating people from a school fire depending on the area where the fire has started. Using this scenario any school is able to prepare its evacuation plans. As the effect of showing this film in Lodz’s schools, a significant increase of evacuation techniques and procedures has been observed and the time needed to escape from endangered buildings has been decreased.

The contents of the film:
During a lesson a fire breaks out in the chemistry class storage room (on the ground floor of the school building). The teacher leads the students outside and alarms the headmaster. The headmaster notifies the fire brigade and checks the danger. The doors to the chemistry class and the burning rooms are shut so the smoke does not fill the corridors. The alarm is raised. Using designated people, a message about the evacuation sequence is passed on to other teachers. The door-keeper opens the main door and all teachers and students quickly leave the building to order themselves in class groups in the school’s yard. The headmaster takes the report to check if all the students are present. Unfortunately, a group of five students is left behind on the third floor and the smoke filling corridors does not allow them to get out. When the fire brigade arrives the headmaster informs the fire chief about the students trapped inside. The rescuers using a turn table ladder and breathing apparatus equipment evacuate the trapped students.
